Why is sleep so important to us?

  • We all need sleep. For our bodies and minds to recharge, sleep is an essential function that leaves us feeling refreshed and alert when we wake up. Healthy sleep is a must for the body to remain healthy and prevent diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain will not be able to function correctly, impairing the ability to concentrate, think clearly, and process memories. 
  • How much sleep is recommended? For most adults, the required amount is between seven and nine hours of nightly sleep. Of course, children and teenagers need substantially more sleep, particularly those younger than five years. But despite knowing how many hours we SHOULD be getting, our day-to-day lives (whether that be work schedules, daily stressors, a disruptive bedroom environment, or medical conditions) can all prevent us from receiving that amount of sleep. Of course, a healthy diet and positive lifestyle habits can help ensure an adequate amount of sleep each night – but sometimes that chronic lack of sleep may be the first sign of a sleep disorder.
  • Adding essential oils to your nighttime routine might bring a positive outcome. Essential oils can help aid your sleep to get the rest you need to be able to live your best life.

Recommended Blend/Uses

Whether you use a roller bottle or a diffuser, there are several good recipes for essential oil blends available that help with sleeping. We’ve compiled a few of our favorites below. 



If you’re struggling with insomnia, be sure to give this blend a try:

  • 5-10 drops of Lavender 
  • 5-10 drops of Cedarwood 
  • Carrier Oil such as almond, grapeseed, or fractionated coconut oil 
  • Optional: 3 drops of Frankincense 

Directions:


Begin by pouring essential oils into the roller bottle (10ml). Filling the remaining space with the carrier oil, leave a little room on top to place the rollerball. If you find it hard to place the top piece in the bottle, use the cap to help you press it down and secure it into place. Give it a few gentle shakes, label it, and you’re done!


If you’re looking for a soothing nighttime blend, give this blend a try:


To your dark glass rollerball bottle, add:

  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 4 drops of cedarwood essential oil
  • 4 drops of Frankincense essential oil
  • 2 drops of vetiver essential oil

Fill up the rest of the bottle with a carrier oil and firmly replace the bottle cap on top. To mix the oils, gently turn the bottle up and down, and you’re ready to go!

As you get ready for bed, apply the roller bottle to the back of your neck, your wrists, and the bottom of your feet.


You might enjoy using your blends with a diffuser instead of with a roller bottle. When using a diffuser, there is generally no need to include a carrier oil as you would in a roller bottle. It is also recommended that you do not include a carrier oil, as it does not evaporate like the essential oils, meaning that you will have to clean your diffuser after each use. For each of these diffuser blends, place the oils in the diffuser for a long relaxing session, as per the manufacturer’s directions.
